Yuka Hirano - Co-opted Governor
I have lived, studied and worked both overseas and in the UK for over 20 years. As a global citizen, I believe in the importance of lifelong learning in an ever-changing world, and I believe school education plays an important role.
I started working as a teacher in Tokyo. I then completed my Masters and my PhD in Education here in the UK with full funding from the University of Southampton, and I am forever grateful for this opportunity. Through my research, I have become familiar with the theory and practice of teaching, learning and teacher education.
I moved to London to work as a policy researcher in a government agency with colleagues from various countries, and then as a researcher at a global insurance company, primarily focused on merger and acquisition and corporate governance. Throughout my time there, I met various stakeholders, including policy makers in the UK and the EU; I learned about rapidly changing compliance regulations in the financial sector and studied investor documents of global companies.
Now I work as a freelancer and am a parent at Gatley Primary School. I regularly undergo CPD programmes to ensure I am up to date with current policies and regulations as a governor and I am looking forward to making the most of my knowledge and experience during my term here.
